AC Milan Away Blue 1995/1996
The Rossonerri 1995/1996 season was a one where they got back to the level at which it had performed in the early 90’s. Milan finally grabbed the Scudetto again, doing it in dominant fashion. It had reacted to its unexpected fall from grace in 1994-95 with signing George Weah and Roberto Baggio for the attack. Despite Baggio not performing at his customary Juventus level, a tight defence landed the title for the Milanese club.
The Scudetto
It’s a Scudetto that many Rossoneri fans look back on fondly. 1. A Scudetto won against a Juventus side that reached the final of the Champions League. 2.The Weah-Simone partnership 3. The love for Roberto Baggio. All in that one 1995/96 season where youngsters like Ambrosini, Coco and Locatelli. The league campaign got off to a good start and. After a 2-1 win over Juventus at San Siro on matchday six. There was a feeling that it was going to be a good one for them.
AC Milan were in a neck-and-neck title race from start to finish, and there were times during the second half of the season where it looked like it might slip away. The derby against Inter was lost. The fans threw eggs at the team bus a few days after the Rossoneri’s elimination from the UEFA Cup in Bordeaux. But on the same afternoon as those eggs were thrown, the Diavolo ran out 3-0 winners against Parma thanks to the brilliance of Baggio and Savićević. All that despite the lack of support from the stands in the first half. AC Milan were never going to be caught from there and went on to win their 15th Scudetto title on 28 April. They beat Fiorentina 3-1 at home. 15 days later, the Diavolo signed off in style, thrashing Cremonese 7-1 in a celebratory atmosphere.
George Weah made a big big impact those days. He eventually went on to win the Ballon d’Or as the first and last African player. The rest of the squad was full of stars like Maldini, Baresi, Desailly and Boban. Following the season, Fabio Capello eventually left the club in order to join Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid as a new manager.
